How was Cynthia Mann created?
The northwest corridor of the city from West State Street to the foothills and beyond underwent a building boom in the early 1970s. This area continued to grow into the 1980s. Many subdivisions were being developed including Copper Canyon, Jordan's Landing and Castle Hills. The two neighborhood schools, Pierce Park and Collister, were overcrowded. Pierce Park moved into several relocatables to handle the increased enrollment. A bond issue failed to gain the two-thirds majority in May 1987. A second bond issue was put before the patrons in December 1988 and it passed. A new school was on the drawing board and construction began in June 1989. Cynthia Mann Elementary School welcomed students in the Fall 1990.
