The northwest corridor of the city from West State Street to the foothills and beyond saw a building boom start in the early 1970's and continued to grow into the 1980's.  Subdivision after subdivision was being developed including Copper Canyon, Jordan's Landing, Castle Hills.  The two neighborhood schools, Pierce Park and Collister were overcrowded.  Pierce Park moved in several relocatables to handle the increased enrollment.  A bond issue failed to gain the two thirds majority in May of 1987.  A second bond issue was put before the patrons in December, 1988 and it passed.
A new school was on the drawing board and construction began in June, 1989 to be completed for 1990 fall opening.  The school is to be an 18 classroom school with office space, multipurpose room and large play area.
